Ethics in Journalism

Here at Wells Publishing Inc., we pride ourselves on providing you with the latest daily insurance news on InsuranceJournal.com, as well as timely and pertinent feature articles in Insurance Journal magazine. And we also want you to know that we report from a perspective free of any type of compensation or influence from a particular company or association.

Ethics in journalism was a hot topic at a recent IJ editorial meeting, where we debated the pros and cons of accepting gifts or compensation in exchange for editorial content. And we want you to know that we will never do it. That is why we have decided to adopt an editorial ethics policy, which you will soon be able to find on online at InsuranceJournal.com.

The policy, which is still being finalized, includes several guidelines under which we will report, based on a universal document by American Business Media. For example, we will avoid any conflicts of interest by not investing in the insurance industry, nor should we accept any gifts or favors from companies or associations. In addition, we will not accept gratis travel accommodations from companies or associations.

While we value our advertisers greatly, you will never find advertorials in IJ. Instead you’ll find coverage only of unique and innovative products and ideas that will make your life and your job more manageable. Never will we give an advertiser favorable coverage just because they advertise with us. In addition, we do not permit advertisers to review any editorial content before it appears in print.

We will uphold these guidelines and continue to maintain integrity, honesty, accuracy and fairness throughout our publications and on our Web site.

Ultimately, we will continue to strive to bring you the most newsworthy and balanced coverage in the industry. That’s our commitment to you.

Thanks for reading.
