Its more like they don’t want to understand it. We’ve had that hurricane deductible in Florida for over a decade, its in large bold print on every policy. I explain it to every insured but when claim time comes, they act like they never heard of it.
If many insureds do not understand, or know of the deductibles in their property insurance policies, it is due to the failure of their agent or broker to adequately explain them. Some people do “plead ignorance” to gain some advantage, but I don’t believe this is universal. Plaudits to Flins/agent for his efforts. Shame that too many agents don’t do likewise.
