Ga. Big ‘I’ establishes scholarship fund

January 22, 2006

Establishment of a past president’s scholarship fund, to be awarded to the children of member agent’s employees, has been established by the Inde-pendent Insurance Agents of Georgia according to David F. Lewis, IIAG president.

The group plans a comprehensive member survey, which backs up recent “field calls” to agencies to determine which programs and benefits are most useful.

One of the most important activities on IIAG’s 2006 calendar will be its continuing education events.

In 2005, according to Lewis, IIAG had a very successful and productive year. The number of Trusted Choice® agencies was on the rise, up to 158, from 145 a year ago. He said the AAI designation program is stronger than ever, and thanks to the efforts of IIAG’s governmental affairs committee, members were on top of civil justice reform and “insurance reform” was prevented.

In addition, IIAG was successful in qualifying the AAI designation as an exemption for the counselor’s license exam.

The governmental affairs committee established an effective campaign in support of important changes in tort law to support S.B. 3, Preston Smith, R-Rome).

The bill, signed into law by Governor Perdue, includes a cap on non-economic damages in med-mal cases; apportionment of damages and joint and several liability; affidavits in professional liability cases; and expert witnesses.
