Universal Property & Casualty Expands Into Alabama Homeowners Market

July 25, 2016

Universal Insurance Holdings, Inc. was approved in June by the Alabama Department of Insurance to write homeowners insurance in the state through its subsidiary Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company (UPCIC). The company reported that UPCIC has subsequently written its first homeowners insurance policy in Alabama.

Universal announced the official launch of Universal Direct, Universal Insurance’s Direct-to-Consumer online platform for UPCIC products, in Alabama.

Alabama marks the 13th state of operation for Universal Insurance and the third state, including Pennsylvania and Minnesota, to offer customers access to UPCIC homeowners insurance policies through Universal Direct. Independent appointed agents operating in Alabama can receive commissions from policies written by UPCIC via Universal Direct.

UPCIC is licensed to offer its homeowners insurance products in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Hawaii, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, Delaware, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Minnesota, Virginia, Alabama, West Virginia, New Hampshire, New Jersey and New York.

Universal Insurance Holdings, Inc., with its wholly-owned subsidiaries, offers all aspects of insurance underwriting, distribution and claims.
