Environmental Insurance Program

Nuts & Bolts: Burns & Wilcox, a national specialty insurance agency, has formed a strategic alliance with ACE Westchester Specialty Group Environmental to administer a program for environmental contractors and consultants. ACE Westchester Specialty Group will provide coverage on an excess and surplus lines basis through Westchester Surplus Lines Insurance Co. and Illinois Union Insurance Co., part of the ACE Group of Companies. The program targets small environmental and non-environmental contractors, as well as environmental consultants with annual revenues up to $2.5 million. Contractors may be eligible for stand-alone contractors’ pollution liability. Environmental contractors and consultants who qualify also maybe eligible for supporting lines of coverage, including general liability and professional liability.

Dollars: Available limits are $500,000/ $500,000 to $2 million/$2million per occurrence and in the aggregate. Minimum premium is $2,300.

Contagion Cover

Nuts & Bolts: Markel Corp. has launched Outbreak Extra Expense Coverage, a new product designed to protect companies from a closure of their business premises due to a variety of contagions including Avian Flu. Demand for business interruption cover has soared due to the recent cases of Avian Flu and increasing reports of business closure caused by E. coli, salmonella or legionnaires reported in the United States and worldwide media. Markel’s U.S. subsidiaries will target their existing small- to medium-sized companies within, but not limited to, the food service industry, medical industry, educational institutions and property owners/managers. The Outbreak Extra Expense Coverage is available through all Markel U.S. subsidiaries via their normal distribution channels.

Dollars: $5,000 to $50,000 per day for a minimum of 30 days.

States: All.

Carrier: Written on Evanston Insurance Co. or Essex Insurance Co. paper, rated A.M. Best “A” XII, non-admitted.

CyberTech+ for Technology Companies

Nuts & Bolts: Travelers has launched CyberTech+ Product for technology companies. The product provides protection against privacy violations, errors and omissions, and media infringement. Under the CyberTech+ policy, businesses will be able to select from three coverage modules: Technology E&O Liability, Network and Information Security Liability and Communications and Media Liability.

Dollars: Up to $25 million.

States: All.

Ocean Marine

Nuts & Bolts: Century Surety Co., a subsidiary of ProCentury Corp., is adding a new line of business to serve the needs of the ocean marine market. Consistent with other lines of business that Century underwrites, the new ocean marine line will focus on small businesses in underserved segments of the market that allow disciplined underwriting and risk selection.

Century will underwrite ocean cargo, including general and bulk liquid, and dry commodities, marine contractors, ship repairers, terminal operators, charterers, and contractor and service vessels. Coverage highlights will include ocean cargo, marine general liability for ship repairers, terminal operators, marina operators, wharfingers and stevedores, boat dealers, charterer’s legal liability, hull, and protection and indemnity.

Dollars: Up to $10 million.

Carrier: A.M. Best “A-” excellent.

States: All, except Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Transit and Paratransit

Nuts & Bolts: Coverage for city and county transit and paratransit operations, including college and university in-campus fleets and airport buses for passenger transportation is now available from Victor O. Schinnerer & Co. Inc.

Coverage is not available for school districts. The coverage includes specialty manuscript form, especially for transit operations. All types of vehicles used to transport passengers are included. Light rails are accepted for above-ground streetcars. No subways of elevated trains. Government-funded paratransit and Dial-A-Rides are accepted. General liability coverage is provided for transit offices, bus terminals, garaging locations, and repair and service locations.

Excess limits are available in many states. Companion property and crime coverage is available in states written by carriers other than Lincoln General.

Dollars: Up to $5 million, minimum premium is $10,000.

States: All states except Texas and Washington, D.C.

Carrier: Lincoln General, rated “A-” VIII by A.M. Best, admitted.
