Robert Falsarella

Robert E. (Bob) Falsarella has joined Santa Rosa, Calif.-based George Rothert Insurance Services as the firm’s newest senior underwriter. Falsarella, a commercial-lines underwriter, has a background in developing refined professional-liability programs, and as an insurance agent. He joins George Rothert’s underwriting department after 26 years with Fireman’s Fund Insurance in Novato, Calif. For the past two years, Falsarella was a product director and lead underwriter on Fireman’s Fund’s Financial Services Industry Team. Previously, he served for 17 years as a product director in commercial group professional liability.

Larry Patterson

Larry J. Patterson has been hired as a marketing manager at George Rothert. His primary responsibilities will be in-person field contact with Rothert’s existing producers, and qualifying and developing new retail broker producers. He will focus on making agency visits and attending sponsored events. Patterson has over two decades of insurance experience, coming to Rothert following a series of sales management tenures with wholesale and retail insurance companies in the Sacramento area. Most recently, he served as senior marketing representative with General Agents Acceptance Corporation, a premium finance company. Before joining GAAC, he was sales and marketing manager with Farrens & Associates, High Point Underwriters and Dodson Group.

Marty Sullivan

San Diego-based Arrowhead General Insurance Agency Inc. has announced that Martin F. Sullivan Jr. will serve as vice president of the motorcycle division of the company. He will be responsible for operating divisions including production, assigning claims TPA, marketing and transitioning Lincoln General Motorcycle Program to Arrowhead. His principal focus will be on program enhancements and expansion into other states. Arrowhead General acquired the Sullivan & Sullivan General Insurance Agency motorcycle book of business on June 1, 2003. Sullivan has 15 years of experience in the insurance industry and at Sullivan & Sullivan was responsible for all aspects of the company, including personal management and insurance company relations.

Rob Fishman

Quanta U.S. Holdings Inc., the holding company for the U.S.-based specialty insurance operations of Quanta Capital Holdings Ltd., announced the appointment of Robert Fishman as president of U.S. insurance. He will have overall responsibility for Quanta’s specialty underwriting operations in the U.S. He will be based in the company’s U.S. headquarters in New York. Fishman has more than 20 years of industry experience in senior positions. Most recently he served as executive vice president and chief underwriting officer for Zurich North America. Fishman joined the company in 1994 where he started up its non-medical professional liability business in the U.S. From 1992 to 1994 he was vice president and general manager for Lexington Insurance Company, a unit of global insurer AIG, where he was responsible for major professional liability products. He began his insurance career with Progressive Insurance where he last served as vice president.

Glen Curley

Richmond, Va.-based Markel Corporation has hired Glen Curley as president of its Investors Underwriting Managers subsidiary. He has been involved in the insurance industry for over 20 years in various capacities. Curley has experience in specialty casualty, professional liability, property coverages and various reinsurance segments. He most recently served as senior vice president for the direct reinsurance operations of American Reinsurance.

Los Angeles-based E.L.M. Insurance Brokers Inc. announced that Gregg Higgins joined the company as director of field marketing with responsibility over California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, Idaho, Kansas and Oregon. After retiring from the Navy in 1993, Higgins began his specialty lines career in the Boston office of American International Group Company – National Union, starting as a temporary underwriting assistant. After numerous promotions, he was transferred to Arizona and appointed branch manager of specialty lines insurance division, a position he held until January 2000. Prior to joining E.L.M. Insurance Brokers, Higgins was an underwriting manager, specialty lines division at The Philadelphia Insurance Co’s.

Acordia Inc., has made changes to its Las Vegas office. Jane Brun, Tim Brun and Debbie Tyree will each be responsible for generating new commercial business, as well as servicing and maintaining existing accounts.

Jane Brun previously held the position of vice president in Acordia’s Colorado Springs office. With Acordia since 1994, she specializes in all lines of property/casualty commercial insurance. She has identified and developed major customers in industries including transportation, hospitality, real estate, wholesale, retail, municipality and manufacturing.

Tim Brun rejoins Acordia after a short absence. He most recently served as vice president, commercial insurance for Brown & Brown Insurance. He was responsible for developing and managing large accounts as well as planning sales efforts both locally and nationally.

Tyree most recently served for seven years at Kaercher/Near North where she specialized in the gaming and entertainment industries. She has 25 years of experience in the insurance industry.

Red Shield and Rainier Insurance Companies announced that William T. (Bill) Atkins has joined the company as A-division manager. Atkins has spent over 30 years in the insurance industry holding various staff and management positions with Unigard, United Pacific, North Pacific, and C.N.A. He will focus his attention on shaping Red Shield and Rainier’s growth throughout the West. Located in Portland, Ore., Red Shield A-Division is the operations center of an independently Northwest-owned insurance company.

Risk Placement Services has expanded its operation, adding a Las Vegas office specializing in trucking operations, with Roger Kuchar, area vice president, at the helm. Kuchar’s insurance career started in 1975 with Commercial Union Insurance Company, where he last served as vice president, in charge of operational analysis and planning. In 1995, he joined Construction Industry Services Corporation in Las Vegas as vice president of marketing. Prior to joining RPS, Kuchar was president and COO of Summit Insurance Services. He launched Summit’s MGA operation in 1997.

San Francisco-based Woodruff-Sawyer & Co. announced the appointment of Jennifer Walsh as an account executive with the firm’s Employee Benefits Practice. She will be responsible for providing strategic consulting and brokerage services to benefits clients. Her background includes 14 years of experience in the group benefits industry. Most recently, she worked for ProBusiness as a client service manager. She has also held positions with Lincoln National and PM Group Life Insurance Co.

Los Angeles-based Cooperative of American Physicians Inc.-Mutual Protection Trust, a provider of medical professional liability protection, has named John A. Donaldson CFO. He has 25 years of experience in the property/casualty insurance industry, and specializes in reinsurance, medical malpractice and rating agencies. Donaldson comes to CAP-MPT from Employers Insurance Company of Nevada where he was executive vice president and CFO. Prior to EICN, he was with Fremont General Corporation for 20 years, serving in a number of positions within the finance area, including five years as CFO of Fremont Indemnity Company.

The Property Casualty Insurers Association of America announced that Benjamin J. McKay III, former chief of staff for U.S. Representative Katherine Harris (R-FL), will serve as the new director of federal affairs in its Washington, D.C., office. Before working for Representative Harris, McKay served for over a decade as senior staff in both the Florida House and Senate. His tenure included service to legislators on the insurance committees of both chambers, including the vice chair of the Banking and Insurance Committee in the Senate and a member of the Property/Casualty Subcommittee in the House. He also served as deputy secretary for International and Legislative Affairs at the Florida Department of State under the Harris administration and was promoted to chief of staff for the agency where he presided during the 2000 election.
