New York Superintendent of Insurance Gregory Serio announced the arrest of Garifalia Christea, 48, of Flushing, New York. She is charged with grand larceny, insurance fraud, falsifying business records and violation of the workers compensation law.
The investigation revealed that Ms. Christea received disability benefits and no-fault insurance benefits based on her claim that she could not work, when in fact she was working. She received over $48,000 in benefits due to these fraudulent claims. If convicted of these charges she faces up to seven years in prison.
