New York Superintendent Gregory Serio and Albany County District Attorney Paul Clyne announced the arrest of Caroline Burr-McCann, 35, a former billing clerk for State Opticians who is charged with insurance fraud.
An investigation into reported fraudulent billing practices by State Opticians over the past few months revealed that Burr-McCann of Albany, New York, was the billing clerk at State Optician’s, where she allegedly had changed the submission forms submitted to Capital District Physician’s Health Plan by changing the dates of service and the appropriate treating doctor’s signature. The forms submitted by State Opticians for just the month of February 2002 were over $23,665.
Burr-McCann was arrested this week and arraigned in Albany Police Court. Her arrest is part of an ongoing investigation. The owner of State Opticians, Dierdre Wolberg, was arrested last month for Insurance Fraud and Grand Larceny.
The investigation was conducted by the Department’s Frauds Bureau with the assistance of the Albany County DA’s office.
