PIWA Celebrates 25th Anniversary

The Professional Insurance Wholesalers Association of New York State Inc. announced that it will celebrate its 25-year anniversary at its annual convention, Nov. 5 – 6 at the New York Marriott in Brooklyn.

“The event this year includes education sessions, a conference luncheon and the 25th anniversary dinner,” said the bulletin. Alan Martin and Ralph Palmieri will be honored with the PIWA Silver Achievement Award. The award honors members who have made outstanding contributions to the wholesale community.

The announcement noted that “Martin drafted the association’s original bylaws and continues to act as an advisor to the organization. He has written several articles for nationally recognized trade publications including National Underwriter and Business Insurance.”

Palmieri has been an industry representative for more than 27 years. He is a member of the executive management of The Hartford and is past director of the National Alliance of Surplus Lines Offices.

“Recognizing the contributions to our industry by these two men is a fitting tribute,” stated PIWA president Edwin Levine. “Our sector has been enriched by their dedication and commitment.”

“The education session ‘Building Value Regardless of Market Conditions’ will focus on strategies behind some of the most valuable wholesale operations, ” the announcement continued. “Kevin Stipe, CPCU, senior vice president of Reagan Consulting Inc., will explain why these tactics work and ways to implement them in any market cycle. ‘Are You Ready for the Next Market Cycle’ will show what wholesalers and companies on the front lines do to prepare for market shifts. Maureen Caviston, president of Partners Specialty Group; Kurt Bingeman, president of Russell Bond & Co. Inc.; and James Carey, president and chief executive officer of Admiral Insurance will share their practical strategies to ride out wholesale industry market fluctuations. Both classes are approved for New York continuing education credits. A legislative/regulatory update by Robert Pastel, PIWA legislative representative and Dan Maher, executive director of the Excess Line Association of New York will also offer NYCE credit.”
