Bishop Timothy McDonnell said they have a moral obligation to reach out to the youth? Too bad so many clergy feel they have a moral obligation to give the youth a reacharound. Glad I wasn’t raise Catholic.

Prowlers are everywhere, don’t kid yourself that it’s limited to priests.

Prowlers are everywhere, but the church was aware of this problem in high places and did nothing. My guess is % molesters in priesthood is far greater then other careers.

Actually if you check I think you’ll find that the incidence of pedophilia/molestation by Catholic priests was no higher than the general population, and I’ve seen some studies that have indicated that the incidence was higher in the Protestant church than the Catholic church.

This whole phenomenon makes me sick. These cretins are crawling out of the woodwork after 20, 30, 40 years and why? Because there’s easy money to be made. If they were so damned concerned about it, they should have come forward much earlier. I don’t buy into the argument they didn’t “feel comfortable” doing so. They’e pretty damned comfortable now since they’ve adopted the “herd” mentality and have jumped on the bus. Since most claim “it’s not about the money”, then why are they getting money? Does that make anything go away? Does bleeding the Catholic church to death increase awareness? After the first round of allegations I’m sure the church got the message. The billions of dollars that have been paid to alleged victims would have been better spent finding a way to PREVENT future occurences.

You are an idiot Bill Mahoney and Martha also if you agree with him. It is not uncommon for abuse victims not to tell. They were children rock head and he was an adult who people in the community looked up too. Maybe they were concerned about people believing them. Maybe he convinced them that no one would believe them. You really ought to do some research on a subject before you go spreading fertilizer.

If there was no truth to the charges they would not have paid the money. You have no idea what took place. You are only given part of a story and want to get defensive like someone sued you. What makes you an authority on victims of sexual abuse and the psycological damage that they suffer? You sound like you have no religion at all so what do you care?

I seriously doubt anyone sympathizes with child abusers here Martha. The question is, why only the Catholic Church? Because they have lots of money. Prevent future abuse rather than making a few abused individuals wealthy. I seldom hear about these cases unless a huge amount of money is being requested. Being rich will not make these individuals be healed. If there is money involved use it to help prevent future abuse. Just my thought.
