Interstate Insurance Management Promotes Four

Pennsylvania-based managing general underwriter Interstate Insurance Management has made several promotions.

Larry E. DeFrances has been named executive vice president, commercial auto underwriting manager – U.S. operations. DeFrances is responsible for implementing all aspects of the company’s commercial automobile underwriting strategies nationwide. He is also a member of the firm’s management committee. Prior to joining Interstate, he served as a project engineer at Combustion Engineering.

Constance L. Kennedy has been promoted to vice president, binding underwriting manager. Kennedy is responsible for developing and implementing underwriting and marketing strategies for Interstate’s U.S. binding operations and is part of the firm’s management committee. Prior to joining Interstate, she worked with the Gleason Agency and as an excess & surplus lines underwriter at Pratt Insurance agency in Delaware.

John A. Maurizio has been named treasurer – controller. In his new position, he is responsible for overall financial accounting and reporting, as well as credit risk management and is a member of the management committee. He previously served as staff accountant at Barnes Saly & Company.

Dale W. Shirey was promoted to senior vice president – CAT property specialist. Shirey is responsible for mid-Atlantic agency performance with a specialty in underwriting catastrophe-exposed property risks in the coastal counties of Maryland, Virginia and Delaware. Shirey is a correspondent at Lloyd’s of London. Prior to joining Interstate, he served as senior commercial underwriter and branch manager with Continental Corp. in New York City.
