Having spent a few years in Saudi in a risk management capacity, my take is that some rough arm twisting ensued after this suit was filed. It likely involving fervant promises that large insurance and reinsurance books of business would be imperiled if Lloyd’s didn’t back off.

That’s certainly possible, although is there an alternative to Lloyd’s for certain risks?

I wonder if it had anything to do with a change of heart knowing that Cozen had a similar case against Saudi Arabia dismissed by a federal court several years ago. Maybe Lloyd’s decided not to throw away a ton of money on legal fees on a case that was probably going to get tossed again anyway.

We may never know for sure.

@ The Other Point of View:

I read that this lawsuit had much more information, including info from leaked cables, than the previous lawsuit. That might explain why they filed despite the dismissal of the previous lawsuit.

However, I think that Scott Romoser, below, is more likely right. A few hundred million is nothing to the Saudi Royal family and the Bush family and Halliburton, etc, would work hard to keep this lawsuit from going to the discovery phase.

HOW MUCH BLOOD MONEY GET TO DROP THE CASE ? THE LAW IS DIFERANT NOW . AND SOON THE BUSHES AND HALLBERTON WILL HAVE NOTHING TO SAY. IT WOULD BE A TREASONIST ACT ON THERE PART

This sure gives the conspiracy theorists something to feed on. And it’s SO tranaparent!

Apparently while Lloyd’s representatives were meeting with Saudi officials, Prince Turki bin Faisal Al Saud sneezed and $215 million came out of his left nostril and went directly into one of the Lloyd’s representative’s right front pant pocket.

Well, that didn’t take long. The discovery part of the suit could have been so informative.

CAN SOMEONE GET A PETITION STARTED TO GET SIGNATURES DEMANDING THE RELEASE OF THOSE 28 PAGES, AN INVESTIGATION INTO WTC7, DEMANDING INVESTIGATION INTO THOSE WALL STREET EXCHANGES (INSIDER TRADING, ETC PRIOR TO SEPT 11) TO PRESENTED TO OBAMA (OR ROMNEY)?

SOMEONE NEEDS TO BRING A LAW SUIT AGAINST CHENEY & BUSH FOR USING TAX PAYER MONIES TO FRONT A FALSE FLAG OPERATION. IF A JURY HEARD ALL THE EVIDENCE, NO DOUBT WHATEVER MONETARY COMPENSATION THE PLAINTIFF HOPES TO GAIN WILL BE AWARDED AND MIGHT LEAD TO THE CONVICTION OF BUSH AND CHENEY. ANYBODY??
