Union Mutual of Vermont Companies has appointed Robert Glass as the vice president of underwriting.

Glass comes to Union Mutual with 24 years of insurance experience, most recently with The Hartford Insurance Group as the director of program business development. He also held the position of sales and underwriting manager at The Hartford, which he joined in 2004. Glass began his career in 1987 with the Aetna Casualty and Surety. He later became a regional branch manager for the Travelers Insurance Company (which acquired Aetna), responsible at different times for western New York and later for Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Western Massachusetts and Worcester County.
Union Mutual of Vermont is comprised of three companies, Union Mutual Fire Insurance Co., New England Guaranty Insurance Co., and Eastern Mutual Insurance Co., which write property and casualty insurance via independent agents throughout New England and New York State, except New York City. Union Mutual began business in 1874.
