The Goldman Sachs Group, a global investment banking and securities firm, said it appointed former Zurich Financial Services CEO James J. Schiro to be its board’s next lead director. Additionally, Schiro will also serve as the board’s chair of the corporate governance and nominating committee.

Schiro has been serving as a board director at Goldman Sachs since May 2009. He succeeds John Bryan as the firm’s next lead director. Bryan has been serving on the board at the New York-headquartered investment banking giant since 1999 but plans to retire this year.
“I am pleased that Jim Schiro will become our new lead director and chair of the corporate governance and nominating committee,” said Lloyd Blankfein, CEO of The Goldman Sachs Group.
Schiro was CEO of Zurich, Switzerland-headquartered Zurich Financial Services from May 2002 to December 2009. He was also CEO of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, a provider of assurance, tax, and business consulting services, from 1998 to 2002.
