How about gathering up all those who need repairs along with all those receiving government aid but don’t have a job. Give them hammers, nails, boards and hand saws and let them do some work. It would be cheaper and maybe they could learn some useful skills.
That’s an excellent idea. It would be valuable on the job training, houses and structures would be rebuilt, anicilliary industries and mercantile would benefit (Home Depot, work boots, gloves, restaurants, insurance products). Please keep this going.
Now this, is a GREAT idea. It would give them some self-esteem, if they want it. I am an electrical contractor in California and have done many project for the government. I have great references. But, since I am not union, I don’t think they will use me. I KNOW for a fact I would be very competetive, always have been. Our work is top-rate. I could save the government money and make it easy on the people who are suffering. I am checking with my attorney to see if they are, in fact, doing this, if it is LEGAL. I am an electrical contractor from California and wanted to do work in the regions affected by Sandy. I see that FEMA is using union contractors. I am not union for several valid reasons. I think, if this is a fact, any non-union contractor who had any idea of going there to help has been discriminated against by the federal government. I will contact my attorney in the morning to find out. I am not sure what they are doing is LEGAL. I have done work on project for housing authorities in the San Francisco Bay Area and have great references.
