The lunacy of what is going on in NJ is that permits are being granted to repair and replace using the same old sloppy building codes with both subpar methods as well as materials. As a result, the next storm will be just as bad because the Governor has not had the sense to just xerox the coastal code from the toughest State known.

So fishing shacks at best will become fishing shacks on pilings and that just isn’t enough. And way too many people are just going ahead without permits in their efforts to beat the system. No locaal, county, State or Fema cars driving around to even look for this. One guy was doing things in the middle of the night with heavy equipment. Too many people believe and probably correctly that the recovery is such a mess at this point, the codes which may take years to arrive, won’t happen until the next storm.

Our town’s building inspector hasn’t left his desk in years and won’t start now.
