No it wasn’t. Hurricane deductibles were not allowed. It wasn’t a hurricane. Politicans would know.

Does this mean we need to rethink building along the coast? Does it make sense to continue to allow construction in areas we now know are so vulnerable and costly when damaged? Taxpayers are not in a position to provide states with such money. Maybe it’s time for us to get smarter about construction, notwithstanding the fact that people feel entitled to live on the ocean.

One thing we know: the risk of NOAA failing to call this hurricane a hurricane, and Governor Christie pouncing on that omission to save his constituents millions in deductibles means that all hurricane risk will be baked into the pricing going forward….hurricane deductibles or not.

Companies won’t fail to recognize this. Politicians look good, consumers get to pay more going forward.
