Family of Man Killed by Sandy Tree Sues NYC

August 15, 2013

Relatives of a man who was killed when a tree crashed on his house during Superstorm Sandy has filed a lawsuit against New York City.

The family of Anthony Laino tells the Daily News that the tragedy could have been avoided. They say neighbors had warned the city that the tree was dangerous.

The 30-year-old Laino was a graduate student at St. John’s University. He was lying on a couch in his Queens bedroom when the tree smashed through the roof.

The family’s lawyer says the tree had a weak root system.

The city says it will review the lawsuit.
