Tarpey Insurance Group Acquires Wilson Insurance in Massachusetts

Tarpey Insurance Group Inc., a family-owned and operated independent agency based in Wakefield, Massachusetts, with four additional locations in the state, announced that it has acquired the assets of the Wilson Insurance Agency located in Melrose, Massachusetts. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The Wilson Insurance Agency location will remain a viable office for Tarpey Insurance Group and Wilson Insurance’s President Keith Bowden will remain with the agency as a producer serving his existing commercial and personal lines clients. Wilson Insurance’s four support staff members will also join Tarpey Insurance Group.

Tarpey Insurance Group will have a total of 33 employees following the transaction.

Tarpey Insurance Group has been in business for 45 years under the direction of James J. Tarpey, chairman. All five of Tarpey’s children are employed by the agency. Michael P. Tarpey, vice president, manages the Newton, Massachusetts, location. Elizabeth Kent is president of the agency, overseeing the agency’s financial operations. James B. Tarpey, vice president, manages the daily operations in Wakefield. Mark W. Tarpey, located in the Wakefield office, is vice president and Commercial Lines sales manager. Stephen E. Tarpey is vice president managing the Saugus, Massachusetts, branch.

The agency represents 13 standard market carriers offering commercial and personal lines insurance products for both businesses and individuals. Bill Tarpey, the oldest grandchild of Chairmen James J. Tarpey, will be managing the new Melrose, Massachusetts, location.
