we had a 3 person atty office just file a 100k emp dishonesty claim over like 5 years….sent us the whole atty file…books records, cc statements. If just once they looked at one of the statements, it would have been caught but no, they are too busy.

A few doctors in our small city have had employees that stole $230,000 and one more then $500,000, but docs don’t tend to know what goes on in their accounting offices. Hard to believe this could happen in an agency for that much money.

Perplexed, I go over monthly statements with a fine tooth comb and then go back to the prior year’s statement to compare. I would think a competent agency owner would notice the amount in checking is going down. Employees also don’t have authority to do anything with agency bank accounts. Amazing that some agency’s don’t keep better track of accounting.

It’s amazing how many agency owners don’t follow the same procedures that they preach to their customers. Especially in smaller agencies, they allow the same person to write checks and reconcile the bank accounts, run all accounting reports, close the books. They also put complete trust in some employees that have been with them for years. Another agency lost big $$ because their office manager had an agency credit card, but she was also the one paying the bills. The owner didn’t see all of the personal charges she was making each month.
