Of course the frequency of this crime has doubled. The decent people of the world are caving in to ransom demands. These are a bunch of third world punks who somehow manage to snatch super tankers and cargo ships. It would much more effective to hire professional security details to protect these ships. Then next time some Somalian punk tries to board a ship in international waters, they need to be summarily killed. That’s the only consequence these pieces of human garbage understand. Since they don’t perceive any consequence, they keep hijacking ships. When common thugs attempt to steal a ship on the high seas it should be open season on them. How about a bounty on them? Or the next time they jack a ship, a special forces team needs to go into their port and take the vessel back and hopefully inflict some pain and damage to the Somalians while they’re at it. Ransom insurance promulgates the problem. Deadly force is a deterrent.
