Markel International España, the Spanish operation of the specialist insurer Markel International, has opened an office in Barcelona to work alongside its Madrid office, which opened in 2005. Markel’s business in Spain has “grown significantly” since then, and “this performance, together with the attractive long-term growth prospects in Spain, has led to the opening of the new office,” the bulletin explained.
It also noted that the expansion “coincides with an annual survey of independent brokers which has ranked Markel as one of the top insurance brands in Spain.
“Markel International España is a specialist insurer focused on general liability, professional liability, D&O and professional indemnity lines. The Barcelona office will offer the full range of company products and also handle the production of documentation to better meet the needs of the local broking community.”
Carlos de Puig, who has over 20 years’ experience in the sector, will head the new office, and will “reinforce the company’s presence in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. He will also support the company’s relationship with brokers.”
Esteban Manzano, Managing Director of Markel International España, noted: “The Catalan market is very important for the immediate future of our business in Spain. As such, the new office is great news for the company and reflects Markel’s growth in the Spanish insurance sector.”
