October 22, 2002

Indiana’s Horizon Insurance Services, Inc. (HIS), a subsidiary of Horizon Bancorp, announced that it has sold its commercial and group insurance lines to General Insurance Service (GIS) effective Nov. 1, 2002.

The company said it would continue to offer personal insurance lines, including life insurance, annuities, homeowners and auto insurance with licensed insurance representatives on staff at most Horizon offices. “The personal insurance lines fit well with Horizon’s retail delivery systems and provides our customers an opportunity to deal with people they know and trust in convenient locations,” explained Mary Schultz, HIS President.

“The agreement with GIS assures Horizon’s commercial insurance customers continued service excellence with one of Northwest Indiana’s largest independent insurance operations,” said the bulletin.

“Combining GIS and Horizon’s commercial insurance lines will provide our customers access to more than 25 major insurance companies and additional brokerage access with more than 200 companies,” stated Tom Cipares, GIS President. The company has operated in Northwest Indiana for more than 40 years, and operates 12 commercial insurance agents and four group health agents in Michigan City, LaPorte, Valparaiso and South Bend.

“Our company has always had a good working relationship with Horizon Bank,” Cipares indicated. “Its officers and employees exemplify the utmost in professional financial service. We look forward to working with them on the transition.”
