First Actual American Insurance Co., which has no license to sell in Missouri, reportedly is soliciting medical malpractice business in the Kansas City area.
If doctors or other health-care providers are approached, they should contact the Missouri Department of Insurance at (800) 726-7390.
State insurance regulators do not and cannot oversee unlicensed insurers on their financial ability to pay claims and protect policyholders’ interests.
North Dakota, Oregon and Mississippi state insurance authorities have issued orders against marketing and sales by First Actual. First Actual has maintained it does not need licenses because the firm is controlled by an Indian tribe.
