Acordia Names Three New Hires in Minn. Office

Chicago-based Acordia Inc. has announced three new hires in its Minnesota office.

John Dwyer has joined Acordia’s Minnesota office as a commercial lines sales representative, Jeff Bowers is the new vice president of marketing, and Jim Turner is the new vice president of the claims department.

Before joining Acordia, Dwyer spent 18 years with Marsh. Prior to that he spent two years outside of the insurance business. Most recently he worked for two years at Arthur J. Gallagher.

Bowers will be responsible for developing the company’s market relationships in Bloomington and other offices in Acordia’s Midwest region.

Bowers started his career in the insurance business in 1974 with Liberty Mutual. He then went to Bachman Anderson in 1975 were he worked as a sales producer for five years, primarily in program business.

In 1980, Bowers joined Corroon and Black where he was responsible for running a national program for colleges and universities. In 1984, he continued his career in the insurance industry with Alexander and Alexander where he worked as a sales producer for five years.

Bowers then joined First Insurance in 1989, working as an Account Manager until 1993 when it was sold. Bowers then worked in the industry for 14 months at R.L. Youngdahl before moving to work at PEO, R.J. Associates where he began first as a sales producer, and then as Director of Sales and Customer Service for six and a half years. Bowers worked for Gallagher in 2000 serving as an Area President running the office for three years before joining Acordia.

Turner will work with Minnesota team members as a resource and an advocate on the design of their claims management program. He has worked with many types of companies, from local employers to Fortune 500 companies. Turner will work with Acordia’s clients to resolve problematic claims and to reduce outstanding case reserves, applying a “best practices” approach to managing risk.

Turner has more than 20 years of experience in commercial claims, with 10 years of that dedicated to serving as a broker claims consultant. Jim most recently worked as Risk Manager and Safety Director for a local construction company. Turner has a bachelors degree from University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn.

Turner also has his Commercial Property and Casualty Insurance License and is working toward his Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation.

Acordia is the world’s sixth-largest insurance broker and is owned by Wells Fargo Bank.
