The lawyer for the Red River Women’s Clinic says the clinic will comply with a subpoena seeking its insurance records.
The clinic’s lawyer, Joe Turman of Fargo, told the state Insurance Department that the clinic first wants to remove some proprietary information and medical information on patients.
State Insurance Commissioner Jim Poolman subpoenaed the clinic records as part of an investigation into a company known as Unimed, Professional Liability Insurance Co. and by several other names. Poolman has said the company, which lists addresses in Bermuda and the Atlanta area, is not licensed to do business in North Dakota, or in any other state, and should not have sold medical malpractice insurance to the Fargo clinic.
The Red River clinic is North Dakota’s only abortion clinic. Poolman subpoenaed its records after clinic owner Jane Bovard refused to provide them.
