A Sioux Falls insurance executive has been appointed as the new director of the South Dakota Division of Insurance, the Argus Leader reported.
Merle Scheiber will take over on Aug. 18 after departing his current position at NuCorp LTD/Alea North America Insurance Company of Minneapolis, where he is a workers’ compensation program consultant, according to the report.
Scheiber replaces Gary Steuck, who resigned as director to take a job with Aberdeen-based Dacotah Bank.
Scheiber has been in the insurance industry since 1980 when he was a personal lines manager for Prairie States/LeMars Insurance Companies of South Dakota. He has worked in the underwriting, marketing and agency relations for several companies in South Dakota.
Scheiber was appointed to his new position by Gary Viken, secretary of Revenue and Regulation.
