September 5, 2006

Cleveland, Ohio-based Anthem Life Insurance Company announced that in conjunction with the beginning of Life Insurance Awareness Month in September, it is celebrating 50 years of providing group life and disability benefits through its comprehensive suite of plans. Anthem Life Insurance and its affiliated companies, serve more than 5.8 million members, according to the company’s written statement.

“We take great pride in ensuring that our customers are protected should the unexpected occur,” said Nicholas Brecker, president of WellPoint’s Life and Disability business. “As we celebrate our 50th anniversary during Life Insurance Awareness Month in September, we continue to honor our core commitment to our customers.”

Research shows that only half of the U.S. workforce has access to life insurance, and one in three Americans will face a disability between the ages of 35 and 65 (U.S. Department of Labor: National Compensation Survey). According to the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, more than 75 percent of people whose spouses died prematurely (between the ages of 30 and 55) felt they did not have adequate life insurance coverage. Anthem Life provides insurance products that help people address these needs and plan for the unexpected death or disability of a family member.

Anthem Life identifies itself as the nation’s leading group life insurance carrier in the under 100 employees market and the 12th largest group life carrier in the country overall. Anthem Life is a subsidiary of WellPoint, Inc.
