Motorists Mutual Provides New Guide to Agent Planning

July 9, 2008

Columbus, Ohio-based Motorists Mutual Insurance Company recently announced that it is offering a new program to help its more than 4,000 independent agents “plan” for success. The company is providing its agents access to the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents’ Web-based “Practical Guide to Successful Planning.”

Motorists is distributing a CD-ROM that introduces agents to the guide and illustrates how it can be an effective business-planning tool to boost their success. The PIA developed this tool through its work with The Partnership, a select group of national and regional insurance companies, which includes Motorists.

“Independent agents understand the value of creating a solid plan, and it does not have to be a complex process. This guide can create a meaningful plan that is right for their individual agency,” says Grady Campbell, vice president of Property and Casualty Marketing for Motorists. “We’re proud to partner with the PIA to develop this tool that will give our independent agents a competitive advantage.”

Each agency takes a different approach to business planning so the guide is set up so that agencies can tailor it to suit their specific needs and market forces they face. Agents can select their starting point and access the right tools to help them be successful in their planning, according to the written statement by Motorists.

“This is a tool created by agents – for agents,” says PIA National President Robert Page. “Its purpose is to assist agents in planning efforts within their own agencies and coordinating those plans as they work with the carriers they represent.”

The guide helps agents with five key planning areas:
Making choices about planning.
Deciding what accomplishments are desired.
Implementing a plan.
Measuring and adjusting the plan.
Coordinating with carriers.
