Ohio’s State Auto Announces New Management Positions

Columbus, Ohio-based State Automobile Mutual Insurance Company and State Auto Property & Casualty Insurance Company have announced new managers in various divisions.

Robert (Bob) A. Bachtell is claim manager for State Auto’s Ohio region. Bachtell joined Midwest Security Insurance Company of Onalaska, Wis., in 1989, prior to its 1997 acquisition by State Auto. He holds the Associate in Claims (AIC) and Associate in Insurance Services (AIS) designations and earned a degree in business administration from Wartburg College.

Wayne F. Berner is manager of personal insurance actuarial. Since joining State Auto in 1993, Berner has served in several actuarial staff and management positions. He was elected assistant secretary of the companies in 2005. Berner is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). He earned a bachelor’s degree in actuarial science from the University of Iowa.

Stephen (Steve) W. Miller has served in number of roles in State Auto’s claims operations since 1989, currently serving as a corporate claim manager. Miller is a member and past president of the National Society of Professional Insurance Investigators and a member of the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys. He holds a bachelor’s degree in public affairs from Indiana University.

Diane L. Monnin began her State Auto career in 1987 as a personal lines underwriter, later serving in several personal lines staff and management positions before assuming her current role as personal insurance product manager. Monnin is a graduate of Mount Vernon Nazarene University who holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriting (CPCU) and Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) designations.

William (Bill) L. Peters joined State Auto in 2007 after serving as managing attorney for a large national auto insurer. Peters is State Auto’s corporate claim counsel who holds an undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University and a juris doctor from Capital University. He is active in the Ohio Bar Association and the Defense Research Institute.

Neil E. Stufft is director of custom insurance operations in State Auto’s business insurance division. Prior to joining the company in 1987, Stufft worked in an independent insurance agency and served as vice president of underwriting for a regional property and casualty insurance carrier. He holds the CPCU, ARe and Associate in Research and Planning (ARP) designations.
