The problem is not just the mapping; Iowa farmers have encroached on the flood plains and the private farm dams are in terrible shape (no money to properly fix them). Regardless of the cause, the same people complaining about buying flood insurance will be the ones crying the loudest when the flood comes this spring and they’re uninsured. And with all the record storms in the Midwest this winter it will come, making it the 3rd 500 year flood in 20 years.
