Thompson, Gress to Retire from Ohio-based Central Insurance

Central Insurance Companies, headquartered in Ohio, has announced the retirements of Michael E. Thompson and George J.Gress effective April 9, 2010.

Thompson, senior vice president of Commercial Underwriting, will retire after nearly 38 years of service with the company. He has spent his entire career in the insurance industry with Central.

After graduating from Miami University and serving in the U.S. Army, Thompson began his career as a loss control consultant in 1972. During his tenure, he held many positions within the company including procedures analyst, administrative service manager, regional underwriting manager, director of loss control and assistant vice president of procedures. He has held the position of senior vice president of Commercial Underwriting since 1985.

George Gress will also retire from his position as vice president and manager of the Central regional office in Van Wert, Ohio.

Gress, a graduate of North Dakota State University, has been with Central for 15 years, beginning his career in 1995 as Central regional office manager and vice president.

Prior to working with Central, Gress worked as a premium auditor and held various underwriting, marketing and management positions with another company for almost 23 years.

The Central Insurance Companies was founded in Van Wert, Ohio, in 1876, and provides insurance for automobiles, homes and businesses to more than 390,000 policyholders in 18 states. The Central group of companies has combined assets of over $1 billion. Central’s A.M. Best rating is A+ (Superior).
