NO driver who has insurance in force should have to pay (other than a nominal paperwork) fee, because they don’t have their proof of insurance in their vehicle or on their person, when they are pulled over by a peace authority. The people who don’t and never have coverage will never pay the fine, anyway, so why should those who do normally have coverage?? No fault is too high anyway –

Ah the joy of excessive road taxes under the guise of safety.

I don’t understand this. Aren’t they collecting money in the form of tickets for the infractions anyways? Why don’t they raise those instead of making the insurer pass it through? Seems like a waste in administrative expenses.

How about that? After my personal experience with this broken means of revenue collection, I can’t see it happen soon enough. While I don’t deny that I was at fault in my ordeal, it certainly didn’t help me become more responsible! I called the number to pay and ask questions about my fees because I didn’t want to send a money order to an unknown entity without having some questions answered first. I attempted to call several times a day, every weekday, for almost a year. The phone number listed on my papers would have recording that would say “Due to the high volume of calls we are receiving, we are unable to accpet your call, Goodbye.”
It took obsessive googling until I found an 800 number for long distance callers that worked. I cannot believe that this wasn’t taken as a serious problem. $3000 later I can drive again. I am now paranoid that I will get pulled over and have a suspended license or something else that will start this 2 year nightmare all over again!

They need the money. After all, cocaine, crack rock, and skinny prostitutes are not cheap! How would the Drug Cartel get Money if it were not for Michigan’s loyal justice system?

Iam 38 years old.Between the ages of 21 and 25 I had accumalated 5 driving on suspendeds. The fees were so high i was unable to pay them and thats why I had got so many.12 years later The state of michigan suspends my liscense in another state, gave me a bill for 3500 dollars ten years after this offense that i had over time had taken care of painfully. That is double jeopardy.I paid my fees years ago, havent had a ticket ever since.Till this day they still chase me over it and i refuse to obey there laws when it is unconstitutional. 12 years later imagine being accessed after you have been done with that error when I was a kid.Quit feeding people free assistance, take the money from those who are abusing the system not the ones trying to get away from it.Michigan is sooo corrupt and always will be.I left because my tax dollars were not being put into roads, our taxpayer money is being giving to those who are to lazy to get a job.Yeah just look back into my past and send me a second bill.Michigan needs to quite pushing boundries when it comes to our constitutional rights and follow federal laws…double jeopardy is double jeopardy…8 years later no one see’s this…
