He ignored the restraining order and the laws associated with it – what makes anyone believe that additional legislation will prevent or deter something like this from happening again? If a deranged individual used a car to commit this crime, would we be calling for legislation to restrict access to vehicles? If any other object were used to commit the same crime – baseball bats, tools, etc – would people call for addtional legislation to restrict access to those, too? My grandpa told me a long time ago that a lock just keeps honest people honest, it doesn’t really stop the individuals who are determined to steal.

right, on American. additional guns laws wouldn’t have prevented this. where the problem lies is that there were many warnings about this individual that indicated a likelihood of violence and he still was allowed to roam freely and assault her. that is what needs to be addressed.

It is a very tragic thing to have one person perpetrate such violence on another. There were so many warnings that society did not handle that lead up to this sad ending.
However, taking the lead of this article, should there be a new law restricting the sale of gasoline, knives, acid and tomato juice??
While I was composing this memo, another commented on ball bats, hammers, and the like. Today I heard a person got hit by a car and killed. What next?

Unfortunately, a perfect example of what may be some politician’s misguided effort to be politically correct but won’t improve on the results any of the country’s gun laws. Only the criminals, and those who care little about the law and what’s right, will have the guns. Perhaps gun wielding criminals should just quietly disappear somewhere over the atlantic….after their speedy trial.

I have an idea, how about a law that requires the police and prosecutors to enforce the laws on the books. This jerk had already shown that he was a threat on at least two occasions but yet was on the street. No amount of laws will stop these types, but separating them from society via incarceration will.

One wishes people like this would simply end their own lives without first taking the lives of others–often those having absolutely nothing to do with the perceived problems of the aggressor.

This attitude of ownership– he threatened to kill her if she left him– which apparently resulted in a form of Stockholm’s syndrome seems to be a viral plague spreading across this country like terrible wildfire. And unfortunately one of our two political parties has latched onto these politics of hatred and bigotry. That is why you see the very highest levels of leadership at the GOP support statements and politicians like “we want small government that forces you to carry your inbred rape baby to term because it was “God’s Will”. That kind of thinking leaves no space between our beliefs and those of the Islamic religious extremists we are fighting abroad.

I am in no way a GOP fan but I am a liberty fan and the idea of small government is to limit what the government can force you to do and give you the freedom of choice, not the opposite.

To add to my disclaimer I believe the Romney campaign and his GOP followers to be proponents of big governement not small governement, as well as Obama’s campaign. We need better politicans that aren’t bought and sold for.

I would second LiveFree-the problem with America today is that the federal government is out of control. If we would go back to the vision of the founders for a small federal government this would be a far better country for all of us.

We can start by eliminating all of the White House czars and just keep going from there. Dept of Education would be next followed by Health and Human services so on and so on. If a state wants programs let the state provide them. If I do not like what my state offers I then have the opportunity to move to another state the provides more programs and the higher tax rates to go along with them.

Yes please, Don’t allow the law abiding citizens to have guns. The criminals just hate that.

Here is the other thing. The police had been called MULTIPLE times to the home, prior to the restraining order going into effect, so this guy was a whack job. These people already have guns, and always will. All making guns laws tougher would do is punish those of us who go through all the proper and legal channels.

I pack heat and very proud of it. You are crazy if you think gun control would prevent these tragedies.
