The Motorists Insurance Group Restructures Business Model, Management Team

Motorists Insurance Group President and CEO David L. Kaufman announced a new functional structure for the Columbus, Ohio-based group’s 10 property/casualty insurance, life insurance and insurance brokerage companies.

In the new structure, functions are organized under members of the group’s executive team.

Chief Operating Officer Charles D. Stapleton now oversees all property and casualty sales. This function has been separated from marketing. He also is responsible for underwriting, risk management and claims operations for Motorists Mutual, Wilson Mutual, Iowa Mutual and Phenix Mutual.

Mike Lappin will remain president of Wilson Mutual and Rolf Gesen will remain president of Phenix Mutual. Responsibilities for sales operations are being handled at an individual company level by the vice presidents and assistant vice presidents of sales. The responsibilities of vice presidents and assistant vice presidents for personal lines and commercial lines remain the same.

Drew Bright is now senior vice president of sales and underwriting for Motorists Mutual. He previously served as president of Iowa Mutual. He will relocate to Columbus.

Georgia Puls has been selected president of Iowa Mutual.

Teresa King is vice president and chief claims officer.

Tamy Stephens is vice president of risk management and services.

Chief Marketing Officer Grady B. Campbell will oversee marketing with a group-wide focus. The marketing function for The Motorists Insurance Group has been separated from sales and is responsible for expansion (state expansion and affiliation), specialty markets including Motorists Commercial Mutual, MCM Insurance Agency, Motorists Life Insurance and Broad Street Brokerage, product research and development, corporate communications and advertising, agency development and customer experience.

Mike Agan is now president of Motorists Life Insurance Co. and Broad Street Brokerage to align with Motorists’ affiliate model.

Austin Slattery is vice president of marketing and expansion.

Steve Manteufel is senior vice president of Motorists Commercial Mutual and MCM Insurance Agency. MCM and the brokerage will become a specialty company and soon will be available to all agencies.

Chief Financial Officer Susan E. Haack will oversee all financial operations for the group of companies. This includes accounting, analytics, enterprise risk management, investments, actuarial and Life Financial.

General Counsel and Corporate Secretary Charles R. Gaskill is responsible for all legal affairs of the group. He also is expected to be named corporate secretary by the Motorists board of directors. Gaskill also is responsible for legislative affairs and civic fund, real estate and facilities and document management services.

Chief Information Officer John Kessler is responsible for all technology initiatives for The Motorists Insurance Group.

Chief Human Resources Officer Anne Kingwill oversee all human resources functions for the group of companies, including performance management and compensation, education and learning, and talent and recruitment departments.

Chief of Staff Chuck Wickert will serve as chief of staff to President and CEO Kaufman.
