Approximately 2 years ago FEMA announced that All Levees had to be recertified. The Corp of Engineers who had built some of these levee at the same time announced that they would no longer certify any levee. Private engineering cost to get a levee certified are very high and results uncertain at best. I now understand that in my area two rural levee districts have reached a 5 year agreement with FEMA to with hold the need for recertification of 2 levees. this allowed the entire area to retain its Zone B classification and avoid hugh and costly changes for every homeowner in the area.

Olin – where are the levees you are referring to. I am wanting to build a building that falls in the “lunken levee” area and the city of Cincinnati is making it impossible. This building is a small commercial building, no mortgage (cash) and the Cincinnati wants it elevated 14 feet in the air which is impossible for the intended use of the building. Thank you and have a great day.
