The Williston, N.D., city commission has approved a new taxi cab ordinance that will fine drivers for operating a vehicle without a city license or insurance.
The Williston Herald reports that the rules came after complaints from several taxi drivers who claimed competitors have been operating vehicles without licenses or insurance,
Mayor-elect Howard Klug says drivers also must meet numerous qualifications, including the ability to understand English.
Anyone wanting to drive a cab in the oil boomtown also must submit to a background check by police.
