Chubb Countersues Owners of Ohio Mansion Gutted by Fire

April 9, 2015

An insurance company is suing the owners of a $4 million mansion that burned to the ground in suburban Cincinnati, Ohio, last year.

Chubb National Insurance Co. recently filed a lawsuit in federal court in Cincinnati in response to one filed earlier this year by mansion owners Jeffrey and Maria Decker. The Deckers are suing the Warren, New Jersey-based insurance company for $60 million, saying it didn’t honor their claims.

Chubb’s lawsuit says the Deckers made false statements about their fire losses and financial condition.

The Jan. 10, 2014, fire at the 10,000-square-foot Indian Hill home took hours to extinguish. Authorities haven’t determined the cause of the blaze.

The county auditor’s website had listed the home as worth more than $4 million.
