I’m probably going to destroyed here but sometimes you need to speak up. I have no problem giving someone with a physical/mental challenge (is that the correct thing to say today?)a job, however there comes a time when a person with a disability just can’t do the job required. One thing lacking in this story is what job position was available. If it required that the person be able to hear, I feel the manager was well within their right to refuse the interview. Of course, if that was the situation then it should have been explained right away and maybe this whole lawsuit wouldn’t have taken place. On the other side, if the job did not require hearing then the interview should have taken place and since it did not the manager is in the wrong. Allstate has a call center where I am that takes FNOL claims, they hired a blind processor to do this job even though it requires computer input. Allstate bought software that allows her to do a seeing persons job, so it is possible in some cases. I feel that some Americans have gotten to sue happy if they don’t get there way and way to many people claim discrimination when it truly isn’t.

Wyoming, you are correct, of course. There are jobs out there for the disabled that don’t require interaction with the public. In this case, McDonald’s shouldn’t be required to hire another person just to “sign” to the disabled guy who can’t hear or speak.

“There are jobs out there for the disabled that don’t require interaction with the public.” Yeah, umm, I don’t really think that was the point WyomingAgent was trying to make.
