Having stationary engineers is not the same as a National Board Commissioned Boiler Inspector. Their training is not the same. That is like saying a school bus driver and a DOT investigator are the same. A stationary engineer’s test would not get you even close to passing the National Board examination, and that does not include the continuing education courses every year the boiler inspector is required to complete. I have been both a stationary engineer and National Board Commissioned Inspector, trained by the US Navy. Both are fine professions, but not interchangeable.

It looks like their regulations regarding boilers need to be more boilerplate.
