RLI Expects Limited Losses, Is Fully Operational

September 13, 2001

RLI Corp. executives said that the company does not expect a significant number of insurance claims from Tuesday’s attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C. The company has a limited number of risks in these metropolitan areas.

“While we are eager to assist any customers touched by these tragic events, our records indicate that few of our policyholders are likely to have been affected,” stated RLI Corp. President & CEO Jonathan E. Michael.

Although RLI’s surety and executive products office in the World Trade Center was destroyed yesterday, the company is already processing business that normally would be routed through New York. Michael said, “Within one hour of the building’s collapse, we had a disaster recovery center established in our home office, where all of our New York documents are backed up. We began proactively contacting the insurance community to let them know that our doors remain open. In addition, our other surety and executive product offices throughout the country are prepared to make sure there is no disruption in service to our customers.”

RLI’s corporate offices are now handling business calls related to the company’s New York-based operations. Customers and business partners can call (309) 692-1000 or 800-331-4929. When New York telephone lines are functional, they will also be routed to RLI Corp.’s home office. E-mail communications to RLI’s New York operations have also been re-established and managed through Peoria.

RLI Corp., through its subsidiaries RLI Insurance Company, Mt. Hawley Insurance Company, Underwriters Indemnity Company and Planet Indemnity Company, underwrites selected property and casualty insurance products.
