David Winston has been named vice president of federal affairs for the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) and will be located in the association’s Washington, D.C. office.

Winston brings more than two decades of federal government and insurance industry experience to his new position, and has worked on a wide variety of legislative and regulatory issues affecting the industry.

Prior to joining NAMIC, Winston spent more than 22 years with the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) where he was most recently vice president, functioning as chief federal lobbyist, and managing their Government Affairs Department and grassroots efforts. Prior to joining NAIFA, Winston served on the staff of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary.

“It is exciting to join an organization with the stature and strong national reputation that NAMIC enjoys,” said Winston. “I look forward to using my lobbying, grassroots communication and member support experience to help our member companies positively shape legislation affecting their businesses.”

Additionally, Marliss Browder, who joined the NAMIC Washington, D.C., staff last summer, has been promoted to director of federal affairs.

A former federal legislative manager for Kemper Insurance Cos., she also served on the majority staff of the House Banking Committee and was staff assistant to Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
