The title says US Cuts Premiums for high risk plans. That is our Federal Government subsidizing these plans with taxpayer dollars. We really didn’t need Obamacare mandating coverage for everyone in order to do these high risk plans. The Pool could have been created for chronically sick people at much less cost than what we have going on here. The rest of the country could have used Tort Reform, selling across state lines to create competition to keep costs down, but no we couldn’t do that. We had to have the monstrocity which is sure to bankrupt the country if fully implemented.
Every other civilized country has heakth *care*, not just health insurance.
It’s far more important, and a more appropriate use of government monies, for every American to get any medical attention they need, when they need it, than to be playing around in the sandboxes of Iraq and Afghanistan.
We shouldn’t have a single soldier, sailor or Marine outside the boundaries of this country until every las citizen has a home and all the medical care they need.
I sincerely hope that those opposed to even the timid steps we have made so far find themselves suddenly remdered ‘uninsurable’, with a serious chronic and life threatening health condition and unemployed, *then* they might know what they are talking about
“I sincerely hope that those opposed to even the timid steps we have made so far find themselves suddenly remdered ‘uninsurable’, with a serious chronic and life threatening health condition and unemployed, *then* they might know what they are talking about”
Wow, Eric Blair, is this the civilized discourse that liberals are demanding? You have some serious anger and hatred issues. BTW, maybe you should spend some time with our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan and then YOU will know what you are talking about.
Eric, You have the same Progressive entitlement mentality that government should provide health care from cradle to grave. You cited that every other civilized country has health care, not just health insurance. Perhaps you should do some checking on the state of health care in these countries. Great Britain, laying off 500,000 health care workers because they are broke, Cuba laying off 200,000 workers because they are broke. Severe rationing of health care in both. Are you calling Obamacare a timid step so far? The article was about the High Risk Pool providing coverage to the uninsurable. It stated that the participation has been minimal so far. Why is that? Most states already have high risk Pools to provide coverage to these people. I’m sorry, but your arguments don’t wash with me.
” the same Progressive entitlement mentality that government should provide health care from cradle to grave”
-no less reasonable expectation from any first world government than national defense, functioning roads and laws limiting pollution. If the basic things that any and all humans should expect their government to provide are an ‘entitlement’ then sure. I think’entitlements’ are more along the lines of General Electric paying zero income taxes.
The problem with these high risk pools is that one must be uninsured for 6 months before one can join. Hopefully disallowing of any refusal for pre existing conditions will be only the first step and after 2012, we can completely eliminate ‘for profit’ healthcare. We shouldn’t run our military, or national infrastructure such as roads or rail, our environmental regulation, nor our healthcare delivery system on a ‘for profit’ basis.
What planet are you from? Who has suggested that we run our military, infrastructure, roads on a for profit basis? The problem you Progressives have is that you think there is an unlimited supply of money to fund all these entitlements. You can’t seem to grasp that the country is broke, running trillion dollar deficits and borrowing $.40 out of every dollar to run the government. The government is just full of waste and corruption and you are willing to let them take over health care. Every country that has tried this has failed miserably and are in dire straits. By the way, I am just as mad as you are about GE paying no Federal Income taxes. Another example of crony capitalism since Imelt is buddy buddy with your President. I am for all working citizens to have some skin in the game instead of half the population not paying any. The Fair Tax is the way to go and we will have plenty of revenue to do the right thing for America.
