Wow – Hail claims up 84% from just 2 years ago! Thank goodness we didn’t have an even bigger premium increase for property coverage.

Insurers want us all to be thanking God for them not raising our rates even more than they have. The nature of the business is spread of risk, because if a single homeowner had to pay the rate for their own exposures, that might be cost prohibitive (even after
excluding Earthquake and Flood). These are the same insurers who spend hundreds of millions advertising everything how great they are, only to hold back at times when it’s inconvenient for them to write the checks.

Most insurers have no spine. They won’t stand up and tell the public the truth. They only look for TV cameras when they’re confident of good PR. When politicians make unsupported derrogatory public statements about insurers as in Hurrican Sandy,
individual company presidents don’t speak up in their own defense.

To hear that so many of these good people are uncertain of how their claims will be settled is only disappointing to us, but it’s an insult after injury to them. They deserve far better.
