Obamacare Enrollment Reaches 3 Million: HHS Secretary Sebelius

By | January 24, 2014

Three million people have enrolled in private health plans offered through Obamacare insurance exchanges, U.S. officials said.

The tally reflects 800,000 new sign ups so far in January, adding to the 2.2 million who enrolled from Oct. 1 through December. A spokesman for the Department of Health and Human Services, Jason Young, confirmed the figure, which the U.S. health secretary, Kathleen Sebelius, used in a speech in Jacksonville, Florida, today.

The Obama administration had a goal of signing up about 7 million by the end of March, the close of the first enrollment period of the insurance exchanges created as part of the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
