Liberty International Underwriters Appoints 3 Senior VPs

Liberty International Underwriters (LIU), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance, has hired William Bell as senior vice president of U.S. Environmental.

LIU also announced two promotions: Mike Nukk to senior vice president of Marine from vice president, Marine underwriting manager EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa); and Rick Niehaus to senior vice president of Energy & Construction from senior vice president of U.S. Energy business.

All three executives will be based in LIU’s New York City office and report to Michael Finnegan, chief underwriting officer for LIU’s U.S. operations.

Bell brings nearly 30 years of insurance industry experience to LIU. He was most recently at Chubb as vice president of Environmental.

At LIU, Bell will have the responsibility for contractor and professional services liability, fixed site pollution legal liability, contractors’ pollution liability, storage tank third party liability, and LIU’s Environmental Advantage product suite, which brings together in one policy: environmental impairment liability (EIL), general liability (GL), and errors and omissions (E&O).

Nukk joined LIU in 2000 and relocated to London in 2009 where he developed and launched the EMEA Marine strategy for Liberty Specialty Markets, Liberty Mutual’s specialty lines operation in London. In his new role, he will lead Marine operations for LIU in the U.S. as well as have global product responsibility for LIU’s Marine line of business.

Niehaus, an 11 year veteran of LIU, most recently managed an energy portfolio of oil/gas and power generation business. He is also responsible for creating LIU’s construction product line. In his new role, he now has responsibility for all of LIU’s Energy and Construction business in the U.S.
