My daughter in law is 20 weeks pregnant and was due to fly with my son and us to the Caribbean for my Mothers 80th birthday. They contacted their travel insurance company who told them that they could not claim if they cancelled due to Zika but also if they did go and she fell ill with the virus they were not going to cover her either!

      Hi Gerald,

It would be dependent on the policy in question. Did your daughter in-law purchase a plan with Cancel For Any Reason and Medical coverage? If she had, she should be able to cancel her trip and be eligible for some level of reimbursement. Also, most plans in the US have primary medical included, but if she chose to bypass medical and did a policy a la carte, then that maybe why she doesn’t not have coverage if she were to fall ill.

Something tells me that attendance at the Olympics in Rio will be off some this year.
