I blame the US Health Dept! They tell us to exercise more as America is getting obese. Walking is a good way to start; get out and walk. Park your car farther away from work or the store and walk. Turns out we are now targets for cars.
Also, shouldn’t the increase be adjusted for growth in population and growth in number of drivers before it is to relied on?
I saw a woman staring at her cell phone today a few steps behind her two little girls walking across the parking lot at a busy busy shopping center. People are just so immersed in their phones today they are not cognizant of their surroundings.

Jack, look no further than the proliferation of cell phones used in driving and while pedestrians are walking. Total distraction.
How ironic we call them Smartphones. At this rate, we might want to re-think that. Perhaps Death-wish-phone is more fitting.
