You want to get rid of police, firefighters, our armed forces (single largest form of socialism in our country), the interstate highway system? The list goes on. Social security is a good thing, asked any disabled friends you have. Ask the reporter our moron-in-chief mocked. I like having both the IRA and social security. I don’t want all my eggs in one Wall Street basket. I’ve seen what they’ve done in the past and have little trust in the cokeheads having my best interest in mind.

When in college, I can remember when exam grades were posted outside of the professors’ office using social security #’s instead of student names. For all the world to see.

That was before identity theft became a problem SW. Hackers just love to get hold of those Social numbers.

Our student ID no. was our social security number!

I had to make an emergency dental appointment when I was at work a few years ago. The dentist would not see me until I wrote down my social security number on my medical records. Creepy!

The comments here are awfully contentious for an article on information security.

Welcome to the IJ Comment section, Counterpoint. I’ve built an algorithm that calculates on average it takes 5.2 comments on any article for the conversation to devolve into Conservative vs Liberal politics. Most of the time it is entertaining but sometimes it becomes quite juvenile.

Cl, interesting that the Conservative positions are the ones being hidden, right? Look no further than any article Polar posts on and get back to us. Ready, set, go!

That could simply be explained by the majority of the voters disagreeing with him or his confrontational tone. It only gets interesting if you have a reason to think otherwise.

Agent, can you at least be original? You ended your past like Yogi frequently does…at least get some new material.

Did anyone else notice that all the solutions suggested in the article are to replace the 9 digit SSN used as a universal identifier with a more complex universal identifier. The problem is the universal identifier, not how simple the identifier is. The problem is that an account number for one’s social security retirement account is now the person’s identity. If each system had it’s own identifier, than the problem would go away because any breach would be limited to that account. Just because someone asks for your SSN doesn’t mean that they have a right or a reason for having it.

And, if a Credit Card chip can be hacked, so can this.
Maybe a picture I.D. with a finger print would be simpler and workable…… BUT, one thing for sure, it will be misused by government.

Older SS cards had it printed on them, not to be used as identification, this has been removed and SS cards/Numbers are used extensively as identification, what would take it’s place, the Mark of the beast Computer Chip)on the forehead?

The Mark of the Beast 666=Nero Caesar, but that’s beside the point.

There is really no need for a chip in the hand, forehead, or wherever. Thumb/finger/hand prints & retinal scan technology is already out there. That’s what is next, and I look forward to it. (I won’t be getting any chips or tattoos though!)

They also compared the roll-out of this key to the one in Estonia! That’s only 1.5 mil people — not 325 million. But I’m sure our good ol’ merican gubment will do it as efficiently and worry-free as one might expect.
