Kroll Inc., the international security and risk consulting company which often works with insurers, announced that a $100,000 reward is being offered for the return of a Stradivarius violin, reported missing from the the Chistophe Landon Rare Violins shop near Lincoln Center on April 9.
The extremely rare violin, called “Le Maurien,” dates from 1714, and was last seen on April 8, when it was shown to a violinist from an American orchestra. It’s the third Stradivarius to be reported missing in the last 8 years, according to Kroll’s bulletin.
“We believe that there is a good chance that the violin is still within the metropolitan area,” stated Timothy Horner, a Kroll investigator. “We are asking the public to pass-on any information that might assist in the recovery of the violin. No questions will be asked, and all information will be kept confidential.”
He added that the $100,000 reward would be shared if more than one person provided the information that led to the violin’s recovery, that the violin must be recovered in good condition, and that the identity of the reward recipient or recipients would also be kept confidential.
